ASTM A572-50 plate has a higher yield and tensile strength than A36 plate, combined with a lower weight. A572-50 plate is ductile and easy to form. It can be successfully machined with the appropriate techniques and is easy to weld. It is a high strength low alloy (HSLA) columbium-vanadium steel and is available in grades 42, 55, 60 and 65.
